Salato center is on property. That's an animal preserve/education center. I forget the cost but it's low. I go to see buffalo, which once we're prolific in Kentucky. All animals here are native to Kentucky and very well cared for. Some are rescues that couldn't live in the wild, others are there to protect them and educate.
Great place for the whole family to fish, hike, explore, learn and enjoy the great outdoors together. It's also a lovely peaceful place to meditate, practice yoga or have a picnic and see some indigenous KY animals. However, I don't think it's free to visit the animals, it is free to enter and use the lakes and park area.
Great place to fish. It's the season for trout.
There are two lakes: upper and lower sportsman with upper being larger of the two. They are part of the FINs program and are stocked every month with catfish. You'll also find bluegil, trout and large mouth bass (rare to find min. 15 inches). There are docks you can fish off of and there are spots all around the lakes to sit and fish, bring your own chairs. The place closes at 9pm but you can usually stay until dark, if that's later. It's a tobacco free campus and there are geese and ducks everywhere, careful where you step! You can drive around both lakes in under five minutes. It's a great spot.
Mainly for old people. Not very many activities for younger adults or children. Very disappointed.
Clean grounds. Do your part to keep it that way please. Lakes are pretty, just bring a can of corn to catch trout.
